François-Joël Thiollier becomes a Patron
We are delighted to announce that distinguished pianist François-Joël Thiollier has accepted to become a Patron of the Society, after a contribution that was as entertaining as it was erudite to our 2009 Conference (more on this below!).
He joins current Patrons Natalie Wanamaker-Javier (Rachmaninoff's great-granddaughter), distinguished music critic and Rachmaninoff scholar Geoffrey Norris, pianists Howard Shelley & Hilary MacNamara, and composer Rodion Shchedrin. |
Upcoming events: Members' Weekend 2010, UK
The Rachmaninoff Society will hold a Members' Weekend, which will include an AGM, at Pendrell Hall in Staffordshire (UK) on 10-12 September 2010. An outline programme and booking details will be available in the New Year.
Also, building on the study afternoon we organised with the Philharmonia Orchestra in London in November 2008, we are in talks about a similar event in May 2010. Watch this space!

Chetham's School of Music hosted the Society's 2009 International Conference, which took place on 25-27 September, and focused in Rachmaninoff's Transcriptions.
Great facilities, amazing performances, insights and discussions. What we did not have in numbers, we made up for in warmth and concentration!
Click here for a full account of the Conference, complete with pictures and videos. It now includes a 'taster' from the Masterclass given by François-Joël Thiollier! You can also check out what one of our lecturers, BBC broadcaster David Nice, thought in his blog.
