Rachmaninov and balalaika

Postby Marianne » Mon Jan 19, 2009 9:24 am

Yesterday was a trully magic day. My father's uncle (though he is a month fathers junior :D ) came to visit us (we've seen him ages ago. He is a balalaika player and teacher. He graduated from the Kiev Conservatory and teaches to play balalaika in the Krasnodar University of Art. He has relised three alboms already! We decided that I will make his little personal site for him, so wish me good luck.

He brought not only the family photos (the photo of my great grandfather that I couldn't even dream of, I thought no photo survived of him), but his great collection of music played on the folk Russian instruments - domra, balalaika, orchestras and bands - more than 200 albums :D
Envy me!

And of course first of all I checked for Rachmaninoff's compositions.

The most popular is Italien Polka:

Orchestre Smolensk 09 Rachmaninoff Polka Italienne Op1906
http://rachmaninow.narod.ru/balalaika/4.mp3

Mikhail Sentchourov 13 Rachmaninov Polka Italienne
http://rachmaninow.narod.ru/balalaika/5.mp3

Alexandre Paperny 18 Rachmaninov Polka Italienne
http://rachmaninow.narod.ru/balalaika/6.mp3

Oleg Gloukhov 06 Rachmaninoff Polka Italienne
http://rachmaninow.narod.ru/balalaika/7.mp3

Valery Zajiiguine 09 Rachmaninov-Echkevitch Polka Italienne
http://rachmaninow.narod.ru/balalaika/1.mp3

Mikhail Sentchourov 12 Rachmaninov Serenade
http://rachmaninow.narod.ru/balalaika/2.mp3

Orchestre Radio URSS 04 Rachmaninov Romance op1890
http://rachmaninow.narod.ru/balalaika/3.mp3

But the best compostition perfectly fitting the choice of the instruments is this one:
Orchestre Ossipov Rachmaninoff Chanson Russe
Orchestre Ossipov 01 Rachmaninoff Chanson Russe.mp3

Hope you will like it as much as I do!

To download the files don't follow the links, but just choose to save them with the right button of the mouse, except the last link where you have to follow the link and to insert the code numbers and press the green button to download!

A lot of folk orchestras now playing Rackmaninoff music and I was absolutely in love with Osipov Orchestra in Moscow when they play Aleko Aria !.
